Dr. Yajun Wang
Report title: Rapid cloning and functional study of novel disease resistance genes in wheat
Dr. Yajun Wang’s academic background:
Dr. Yajun Wang got his bachelor’s degree at Shandong Agricultural University and received his Ph.D. degree at the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2014, where he worked on the adult partial resistance of barley against barley leaf rust. Then he conducted his postdoctoral research on studying the host resistance and nonhost resistance of barley against various grass rust and powdery mildew species at Wageningen University. Since 2018, he has been working as a postdoctoral researcher at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia, where he explored the genomics-assisted cloning of wheat disease resistance genes and developed a novel gene-cloning method called MutIsoSeq, which allows rapid cloning of causal genes without tedious genetic mapping. Several disease-resistance genes have been cloned using this method. His research achievements have been published in journals such as Nature Genetics, Nature Plants, etc.
Prof. Zifeng Guo
Report title: Genetic basis of geographical differentiation and breeding selection for wheat plant architecture traits
Professor Zifeng Guo’s academic background:
Professor Zifeng Guo worked as a PhD student in Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK, received a PhD degree from Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg) from 2012 to 2017. He then worked as a postdoc at IPK and University of Cambridge from 2017 to 2018. In 2019, he was selected into the talent plan of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and received preferential support. He currently serves as the head of molecular regulation of plant organ development group in Institute of Botany, CAS. His research focuses on the molecular regulation mechanisms and genetic improvement of important traits such as spike morphology and plant architecture in crops. In recent years, he has published more than 10 papers related to spike morphology and plant architecture in journals such as Genome Biology, PNAS, Plant Biotechnology Journal, New Phytologist, Plant Journal, etc.
